About Nestoor | personal online assistant
Nestoor is a project for my studies at the University of Lapland and it is currently under development.
My problem:
While doing my job, my studies and in my spare time, I am working on numerous computers in different places. Further I own a cellular phone, which I not only use for communication but as an address book, calendar and to obtain information from the web. Last but not least I carry most of the time a notebook with me, in which I write down Ideas and things I’d like to remember. If I don’t have this at hand I’ll write on the back of receipts and other paper snippets. I like to make all kinds of lists and if I get to a shop, I usually start desperately going thru all my pockets trying to find the listing of the needed groceries (which in those moments often lies on my kitchen table back home).
Papers in all forms pile up on my desk at work and at home. Even if I happen to be at the right place, when I need a specific piece of information, it still takes a while finding it. Countless online services I tried so far, in the hope to keep track of my notes, ideas, appointments, to do’s, links to websites and so forth. I had to sign up for each of them and I need to remember their location and my login information for every single account. The separation of links from to do’s and notes makes it hard to organize and retrieve these items.
I believe not to be the only person struggling with this.
My attempt to solve this problem is to create one service, which helps collecting and organizing different kinds of information. The online application should be accessible from normal sized computer as well as from mobile devices.
The most obvious difference to other application should be the combination of many services in one and the ability to categorize information items in a meaningful way. This neither should compete with existing applications installed on computers and mobile devices such as word processors, address books, calendars etc. nor with sketchbooks or flash drives.
The service should just replace paper snippets and be accessible from any internet-enabled device.
